Engaged citizen with a history of positive community influence now aims to keep Golden Valley attractive to current and new residents
Golden Valley, Minn. (June 26, 2019) – Golden Valley resident, Kimberly Sanberg, today announced her candidacy for one of two open seats on the Golden Valley City Council in the November 2019 election.
Kimberly will bring a fresh perspective to new and existing challenges while working collaboratively to move Golden Valley forward. She’s passionate about public service, exemplified by her work current and past as a commissioner on the City of Golden Valley Open Space and Recreation Commission, founding committee member of the Golden Valley Pride Festival, volunteer with Minnesotans United for all Families, and parent advisory board member of Sunshine Valley Childcare.
“I’ve been proud to call Golden Valley home for the past six years and I look forward to raising my family here,” said Kimberly. “But, we must evolve to keep Golden Valley attractive to current and new residents. To make Golden Valley the best it can be, we must look to the future. This includes embracing our diverse community and ensuring local government is responsible, responsive and engaging with its residents, visitors, business owners and others who frequent our city.”
Kimberly – who lives near Brookview Park with her wife, Elizabeth, and two kids, ages 7 and 5 – chose to officially launch her campaign today on the four-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that the Fourteenth Amendment requires all states to grant same-sex marriages and recognize same-sex marriages granted in other states.
“This continues to be a monumental day for my family,” said Kimberly. “It exemplifies how government and society can evolve to build stronger communities that support all of its residents. It’s a powerful example of how societies can change for the better.”
Kimberly owns a digital marketing company and has worked at small businesses and nonprofits dedicated to environmental health, LGBTQ+ equality, and peace and justice.
“Kimberly is an established community advocate who is fiercely devoted to Golden Valley and its residents,” said Melanie Sedqi, Kimberly Sanberg for Golden Valley Campaign Manager. “A prime example of her community engagement can be found in The Backyard at Brookview, the children’s indoor play area at our new Brookview Community Center. Kimberly’s activism helped create this beautiful space that brings so much joy to area families and added revenue to our city.”
Residents can meet Kimberly at an event hosted by Valley Allies from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at Under Pressure Brewery (8806 7th Avenue North).
